Author's Notes to the Rift Stories
At first I had no intention of writing stories based on the events of third season X:WP, but eventually creative inspiration overcame my reluctance. The Rift Stories were my attempt to forge a moral from the bleak, nihilistic destruction of Xena and Gabrielle's relationship. I concentrated on a few specific events that I felt were missed opportunities for credible, thought-provoking drama.
The result was a much different kind of X/G story than I'd written before. There's no overt subtext and some of the stories deal with issues of violence in graphic detail. I can't say I enjoyed writing these pieces, but they helped me make peace with the characters as I see them.
